Originally built in 1973 as one of the first luxury rental properties on St. Barth, the villa was recently given a top-to-bottom renovation in which the owners took care to ensure that every corner is as lovely as possible. At the same time, they respected the home’s original Caribbean feeling and ambience. Colorful fabrics and artwork, along with midcentury furnishings mixed in with more modern pieces, lend a sense of timeless island charm. Even some of the original outdoor furniture was refurbished and repurposed, which adds to the retro appeal. And from its hillside perch in Marigot, Villa Yellowbird has lovely views both by day and by night.

That said, the home is not just a relic of the past. It is full of contemporary conveniences, such as Wi-Fi, Apply TV, and up-to-date kitchen appliances, of course, and very easy for a family or a group of friends to live in. Nature takes a starring role here. The property is adjacent to a nature reserve, where birds of many colors nestle. Earth tones accentuate the soft color palette, as in the sand-colored tile floors and the nut-wood of the cabinetry in the kitchen. Louvred windows on both sides of the living area allow island breezes to waft through. There is a sense of being in harmony with your surroundings.

Next to the indoor-outdoor living room is a kitchen and dining area anchored by a large-scale vintage photograph. Three of the bedrooms are on this level of the villa, with the master bedroom with a king bed and ensuite bathroom to one side of the living room and two more bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with two twins that can be made up as a king, are to the other side. A TV room is on a lower level in the back. The smaller fourth bedroom and fitness room are in a separate bungalow on another level. There is currently a circular plunge pool, but a larger swimming pool is in the works.
