Kauai - Ruggedly Beautiful

Kauai, true to its reputation as the "Garden Isle" of Hawaii, is a captivating tropical paradise. Lush, secluded, fragrant, and breathtaking, Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands and the fourth largest of the archipelago. Set at the northern tip of the island chain, Kauai is a popular choice for couples seeking a stunning Hawaiian setting for their wedding service.

Kauai's dramatic and famous Na Pali Coastline, which can be explored either by foot on one of the many hikes or by boat, is a testament to the island's natural wonders. The island of Kauai has more hiking trails than any other state in the US, making it a premier destination for outdoor adventure.

In addition, the island boasts many gorgeous waterfalls, such as Uluwehi Waterfall, one of the most beautiful in Hawaii, and accessible only via the Wailue River. As far as your eyes can see, Kauai exudes vibrant green scenery. You will find historic valleys of taro, fragrant Hawaiian flora, picture-perfect waterfalls, expansive beaches, and jagged mountains and coastlines awaiting exploration.

Kauai is also home to exceptional golf courses such as the Princeville Makai Golf Club.

Truly spectacular time of rest and relaxation! ...unbelievable beauty!
We just spent 8 amazing days at Hale Kailani. It was everything we expected and more. We celebrated our 50th anniversary (1 yr early 😊) with our kids and grandkids, 17 in all. We could not have found a better place to celebrate. We especially loved the open area where we could all be together. The home is lovely along with the grounds and pool area as well. Nothing could take away from our love of this property, but it would have been a bonus if we could have had more seating outside by the pool. If you are considering this property, I can assure you that this is the place you should book.

Plenty of room for everyone!
Very nice property. We stayed with six people and had plenty of room for everyone. It was nice that they had things to use at the beach and plenty of things that you would use at home. Would absolutely stay here again!

Very spacious and well kept property. We've stayed at many rentals before but a lot of the time some minor details gets missed. Fortunately for this beautiful property, there were no missed details. Everything was up to date and organized. We will recommend this property to our friends and family back home in Texas!

Lovely, contemporary home on the Kiahuna Plantation Golf Course. Spacious, comfortable, and close to many amenities and the beach. It was thoughtfully outfitted with everything you could possibly need for any activity, including beach towels, beach chairs, and a cooler!

Our Family of 6 Slept Comfortably...
We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful home in Poipu. Our family of 6 slept comfortably and had enough space for all of us. The location is great and the home was beautifully decorated. We loved staying here and we look forward to our next visit here again.

Kauai Vacation Rental - FAQ

Answers to common questions about Kauai vacation rentals.
Q:
Where are Exotic Estates vacation homes located on Kauai?
A:

Exotic Estates offers luxury vacation rentals on Kauai in and around Poipu Beach along the south shore, and all along the island's north shore, around Princeville and Hanalei.

Q:
What are the taxes and fees associated with Kauai vacation rentals?
A:

Kauai enforces two taxes on vacation rentals: 1) a General Excise Tax of 4.712% and, 2) a Transient Accommodations Tax of 13.25%. In addition there will be a Departure Cleaning Fee, which vary in price depending on the size of the home; there may also be Mid-Stay Cleaning fees for longer stays. There may be other fees unique to each property, including propane and pool heating. Security deposits are generally handled with a credit card on file.

Q:
Are there vacation rentals located on resort properties, and are there extra charges for resort services?
A:

Yes. We have homes located on incredible resort properties on Kauai, including the Lodge at Kukuiula and the Timbers Kauai Resort. The resorts charge a resort fee for the use of the facilities. Timbers Resort charges a resort fee of 17% (subject to tax), and the family-friendly Lodge at Kukui'ula charges a per-person Spa Fee of $75 per person, which is waived if a treatment is reserved. The tradeoff is access to many services, activities, and programs for the entire family.

Q:
How much do Kauai luxury villa rentals cost per night?
A:

Kauai villas and luxury homes for rent typically range from $400–$1,000 per night for a spacious 3- to 4-bedroom home, $1,000–$2,500 per night for premium oceanfront or resort villas, and $2,500+ per night for ultra-luxury estates with private pools and expansive grounds. Rates vary based on location (Princeville, Poipu, Hanalei), proximity to the beach, and whether the villa is part of a resort community like Kukui'ula or Timbers.

Q:
What's the difference between a Kauai villa rental and a condo?
A:

Kauai villas are private, standalone luxury homes that typically include a private pool, multiple bedrooms, and outdoor living space, ideal for families or groups wanting privacy and room to spread out. Condo rentals are units within a shared building or resort complex, often smaller and more budget-friendly, with access to shared amenities like pools and fitness centers. Exotic Estates specializes in private villas in Kauai rather than standalone condo units.

Q:
What is the best time to visit Kauai for a villa vacation?
A:

April through June and September through November offer the best combination of good weather and lower demand for Kauai luxury rentals. December through March is peak season with the highest rates, especially around the winter holidays. Summer (June–August) is popular with families due to school schedules. Kauai enjoys warm, tropical weather year-round, so shoulder-season travel is a strong value option for a luxury beach getaway.

Q:
Are there family-friendly Kauai villas with enough space for a large group?
A:

Yes. Many Kauai luxury homes for rent are designed for family vacations and larger groups, with 4 to 8+ bedrooms, multiple living areas, private pools, and proximity to beaches on both the North and South Shores. Villas in Princeville and Poipu are especially popular for multi-generational family trips and reunions.

Q:
What amenities are included in a Kauai luxury villa rental?
A:

Most Kauai villas include a private pool or hot tub, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, and indoor-outdoor living spaces with a lanai or balcony. Villas located within resort communities like Kukui'ula or Timbers Kauai Ocean Club may also include access to resort amenities such as golf, spa facilities, and clubhouse dining, typically for an additional resort fee.

Q:
North Shore or South Shore? Which is better for a Kauai villa rental?
A:

The North Shore (Princeville, Hanalei) offers lush, dramatic scenery, waterfalls, and a quieter, more secluded feel, with more rainfall in winter. The South Shore (Poipu) offers sunnier, drier weather year-round and is closer to Lihue Airport. Both areas offer luxury villas ranging from beachfront homes to private, garden-set retreats, the right choice depends on whether you prioritize a shorter drive from the airport (South Shore) or a more remote, tropical setting (North Shore).

Q:
How far in advance should I book a villa in Kaua
A:

For peak season (December–March) and summer travel, book 6–9 months in advance for the best selection of Kauai luxury rentals, especially larger oceanfront homes and resort villas. Shoulder-season trips (spring and fall) can often be booked 2–4 months out.

Q:
What are the most secluded areas on Kauai to rent a luxury villa?
A:

Kauai is the most rural and undeveloped of the major Hawaiian Islands, and a handful of areas stand out for privacy. Anini offers a quiet, low-key coastline with a protected reef and few crowds. Haena, at the end of the North Shore road near the Na Pali Coast, is remote and surrounded by mountains and jungle. Kilauea sits inland and elevated, offering a rural, garden-like setting away from the beach crowds. And Hanalei's outer valley, away from the town center, delivers privacy without sacrificing proximity to Hanalei Bay. Villas in these areas are ideal for travelers seeking a truly private vacation home rather than a resort-adjacent stay.
